The Questions to Ask a Co-Packer Before You Sign Anything

A co-packer quote can look complete and still leave out the things that actually determine whether the relationship works. Here's what to ask before you sign, grouped by what's actually at stake in each answer.

Pricing & fees

Capacity & scheduling

Quality & food safety

What happens when things go wrong

How we answer these: our production date is booked the moment you sign, materials are due on-site 7 days ahead, moving a booked slot is a 25% non-refundable fee, and cancelling within two weeks of your run date is 50% of the scheduled run — because once a slot's booked, it's real cost whether product runs through it or not. We're a small shop, not a certified mega-plant, and we say so plainly rather than implying a certification we don't hold. Walkthroughs are always welcome.

Before the first call

Come prepared with your product type, target fill weight, expected units and flavor count, and whether you're supplying packaging or need it sourced. It won't just speed up your quote — it tells the copacker you've done your homework, which tends to get a straighter answer back.
