Food powder co-packer: drink mixes, protein and seasonings, run under 21 CFR 117.
We blend and pack dry food powders in an FDA-registered facility under 21 CFR Part 117. There's no cooking or kill step in powder blending, so food safety rides on ingredient control: approved suppliers, Salmonella testing on higher-risk ingredients, allergen control and clean lines.
Quick answer: North Lakes Copacking packs dry food powders such as drink mixes, electrolytes, protein, sweeteners and seasonings under 21 CFR 117 in an FDA-registered facility. Higher-risk ingredients are Salmonella-tested and held until results clear. Allergen products get a verified full clean-out. Every pack is lot coded for traceability.
Why do powder co-packers test for Salmonella?
Dry blending has no kill step. Nothing heats the product, so whatever comes in on an ingredient goes out in the pack. Ingredients like freeze-dried fruit and vegetables, greens, cocoa and proteins carry more risk. We test the first three lots from a supplier, then one lot in five, and hold the ingredient until the result clears. Micro tests are billed at the lab’s price plus shipping, about $10–$36 each at the labs we use. See what a micro test covers.
How do you handle allergens?
- One allergen profile in production at a time.
- After a product containing milk, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy or sesame, we do a full clean-out, from the auger motor down to the deck, and verify it with allergen swabs.
- The full clean-out is $795, the same as a package size change. Back-to-back runs of the same allergen pay it once.
Why it's done this way: why allergen products get a full clean-out.
What food powders do you run?
Drink mixes and hydration powders, protein, coffee and cocoa blends, sweeteners including allulose, and seasonings and spice blends. If your product needs cooking, roasting or baking, we're not the right fit; we only blend and pack dry ingredients.
How is traceability handled?
Every ingredient lot is recorded on the batch record, and every pack carries a lot and date code. We can trace a finished lot back to its ingredient lots and forward to where it shipped, and we run mock recalls to prove it. See lot traceability for food brands.
Who owns the label?
You do. Label and artwork compliance, including allergen statements and net quantity, is the brand's responsibility. We fill to your label weight under our net contents policy.
